Updated April 2026 | A local’s honest guide to the best restaurants in Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs has quietly become one of the best food cities in Colorado. Forget the chain restaurants on Powers Boulevard — the real food scene is in neighborhoods like Old Colorado City, downtown, Manitou Springs, and the Ivywild district. Here are the restaurants locals actually eat at.
Best Overall Restaurants
Shuga’s
Downtown | Creative cocktails and globally inspired small plates. The atmosphere is funky and welcoming. Try the Korean fried chicken tacos. Reservations recommended for weekends.
The Rabbit Hole
Downtown | Upscale comfort food in a beautifully renovated historic building. The short rib mac and cheese is legendary. Great date night spot.
Four by Brother Luck
Downtown | Chef Brother Luck (from Chopped) serves modern American cuisine with global influences. One of the best fine dining experiences in the city.
Best Mexican Food
Senor Manuel
Multiple locations | Authentic, generous portions, reasonable prices. The green chile is some of the best in town. Cash only at some locations.
Hacienda Colorado
South Nevada | Upscale Mexican with excellent margaritas and a beautiful patio. The tableside guacamole is worth ordering.
Best Breakfast
Urban Egg
Multiple locations | Farm-to-table breakfast and brunch. The eggs Benedict variations are creative and delicious. Expect a wait on weekends but it moves fast.
King’s Chef Diner
Downtown | Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Classic greasy spoon with massive portions. The green chile smothered breakfast burrito is a must. Cash only.
Best Pizza
Leon Gessi’s
Multiple locations | New York-style pizza that locals swear by. Thin crust, perfect sauce-to-cheese ratio. The original location on Bijou has the most character.
Best Coffee
Loyal Coffee
Downtown | Specialty roaster with a beautiful downtown shop. The pour-overs are excellent. Also serves light breakfast items.
Wild Goose Meeting House
Downtown | Part coffee shop, part community space. Great cold brew and a relaxed atmosphere perfect for remote work.
Best Breweries
Cerberus Brewing
Ivywild | Inside the converted Ivywild School building. Excellent beer and a full food menu. The space is stunning — definitely worth a visit even if you do not drink.
Bristol Brewing
Ivywild | Also in the Ivywild School. Longtime local favorite with consistently great beer. The Laughing Lab is their signature.
What This Local Actually Eats
I should tell you where I’m coming from — I’m Italian, I grew up in New Mexico, and I’m a bit of a foodie. But not the fancy kind. I like a casual environment with good food over an expensive environment with mediocre food any day. If a place makes everything by hand and the prices are fair, I’m happy. If a place charges steakhouse prices for reheated food, I’m never going back.
A few of my go-to spots: Front Range BBQ is my favorite barbecue in town — the burnt ends are incredible. Il Vicino has really good pizza made by hand with an oven right inside the restaurant. There’s a Himalayan restaurant in Manitou Springs that’s excellent. And Old Colorado City has some of the best dining options on the west side — Paravicini’s for Italian, Pizzeria Rustica for Neapolitan pizza, and OCC Brewing for a rooftop beer with Pikes Peak views.
I’ll be honest — I’m still hunting for great Mexican food and great Italian food. I grew up with the real thing in New Mexico, and nothing here has quite measured up yet. But the food scene in the Springs is getting better every year, and there are plenty of places worth your time.
